Question Finding and Mounting HFS external drive

Hi All,

I am running a fresh install Puppy Linux 4.3.1 on an HP mini 1030nr netbook.

I am trying to use my 500gig bus-powered external harddrive. It is formatted HFS, though I do not remember if it is HFS+ or journaled. I do not believe it is journaled. I am connecting over USB.

At any rate, I can see no evidence of the drive being recognized by the computer. I cannot find it to try to mount it. I have followed a few the directions of a few posts regarding other distros, but they all seem to be starting later in the game. They have already found and recognized the drive and are just having trouble mounting. I cannot even find the drive.

Thank you for your time.

I will assume you looked at the output of the dmesg or lsusb commands?
No messages that the drive is being recognized?

I just fired up Gparted and HFS and HFS+ seem to be grayed out as format options. Maybe HFS support is no available in Puppy.
I will have to check into it.
One way to see if Puppy knows the drive is there is just fire up Gparted and select scan for all drives.
Then see if the drive is shown in the drop down list.
Puppy will not show a drive icon for a drive it cannot read, just as Windows will not show one for a drive or partition it cannot read.

You can try loading the modules.
modprobe hfs
or
modprobe hfsplus
