Converting deb to pup


Hello, a novice Linux user here.

I haven't quite got the hang of downloading and installing programs/packages manually; that is, without the pupget or similar utility.

I've downloaded LimeWire as a .deb, but not sure what to do with it.

Also, let's say I D/L a tar.gz package, how would I install this manually?

Step by step (baby steps) help would be MUCH appreciated!
