Boot problem, MSI945 +P4 3.2 GHz
Hello,
I am trying to boot Puppy 2.13 from CD on a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz machine with a MSI 945PL Neo2 motherboard and 1 GB of RAM. The CD is OK as I can boot Puppy with it on other machines. The PC boots OK using Ubuntu Live CD and Damn Small Linux CD. After finding the CD the boot process hangs at the first instance of "Loading kernel modules..." A few seconds after reaching that point the CD spins down and nothing happens anymore. The only way out is to push the hardware reset button. I tried Puppy boot options, I tried several BIOS settings (hyperthreading off) but nothing seems to make any difference. I also tried with Puppy 2.12: same result. I also tried copying the CD files to my HD and booting using loadlin as described on some web pages: same result. Can someone give advice about further possibilities? Thank you! jozjl |
Please make sure that you have tried all possible combinations of boot parameters, especially "acpi=off" and "ide=nodma". Also try resetting the BIOS to defaults and then turning off plug and play and any power management stuff.
For a question like this if nothing else has worked I would suggest reporting it in as much detail as you already have (more if possible) on Barry's Puppy developer forum at http://www.puppyos.net/forum/ Cheers, Mark |
