any easy way to update seamonkey 2.3.1 that c/w pup racy 5.2.2?
or install any current updated browser?
didn't see anything in the ppm & puppywary5 repos witch i think are the correct ones for racy even though there are 3 other optional repos listed, for what reason I haven't a clue
it's also my understanding that not running a current browser is a security issue
understand but most folks are aware that as a basic, keep your stuff updated and i'd like to know if it's easy here for anyone to update or install any current browser
that's one of the first things i'm looking for when i fiddle around and prefer where basics are a cakewalk
if no one can answer this simple question, i'll assume the answer is no and just move on to another distro
i'm looking for something here that will just click and install without fuss to deal with basics
my experience is it's all too easy to break stuff when/if resorting to figuring out basics, with any particular distro,
and support forums can easely end up in another can of worms
Well, I do not know if it means much. I run SeaMonkey 2.5 on Puppy lupu 520.
It has been through a number of updates done by using the Help-Check for updates menu item in it.
I also have NoScript, AdBlock+, Ghost, and Better Privacy installed as plugins on it as well as one translator plugin.
All that has been required in doing an update is a restart of SeaMonkey with it taking me back to the Sites and pages I had open.
I only had one glitch in an update early on when the update trashed my bookmarks.
I now know how to make backups of them so that part is solved.
I also keep my .mozilla directory in /mnt/home and syslink it back to the versions of Puppy I run.
That way, I have all my settings as to bookmarks, plugins, email, and such remain the same irregardless of what version of Puppy I am running.
If you prefer another browser, you would have to have someone chime in with their experience with it as I am a SeaMonkey user with side trips to Firefox when I have Windows booted.
I'm running this on racy 5.2.2
No tweaking needed in menu or default browser icon either.
Thread for reference.
I have racy installed frugally and it has browser problems with the Version of SeaMonkey that I tried to install from the mozilla-seamonkey site.
The desktop button for the browser will not start Seamonkey and the menu selection is hit and miss. If I start it from a terminal, it starts fine.
Also, if I try to use the "Check for Updates" selection in the Help part of the top menu, SeaMonkey crashes with a segmentation fault.
I have not tried installing one of the many PETs I have of SeaMonkey to see if I can get one of them to work and I also saw that someone on the Murga forum has recently written an installer script for SeaMonkey that is supposed to download and install the latest version of SeaMonkey. I will have to go back and investigate that.
I normally do not run racy as my main linux OS and instead have had really good results with Lupu 520.
It may not be the very latest, but it works and that is what counts.
Also, it looks like I would be very comfortable running Slacko 5.3 Main or Slacko 5.3 SCSI PAE for PCs with more than 4 gigs of memory.
