What makes you think that disable the (Xlib-level) "DestroyEvent" is the solution to your problem?
There are at least three different players here:
1. Your Xterm application (that you don't want users to close)
2. Xlib (which the Xterm program uses - in conjunction with the "bash" shell and a /dev/pty port - to interact with the user)
3. The Window Manager (for example Gnome, KDE or Motif) that the Xlib program is running under.
It's the Window manager who displays the little "X" button; it's the Window manager who triggers the events that kill your program.
