Exclamation wxWindows(wxGtk), Gnome, & KDE

I have downloaded the wxGtk soucre and compiled it (configure, make, make install). I did the same for the sample applications. If I am in a terminal, in the directory for one of the programs, I type ./controls for example and it works fine on both KDE & Gnome. It pops up the Application!
When I click on the same program in a File Browser, nothing happens. What do I need to do to get this working? I am still fairly new to Gnome, KDE and Unix. Any help would be appreciated because I am starting to go crazy figuring out what is wrong. Thank you in advance.
