and i am trying to install mozrepl and perl

i did the following

perl -MCPAN -e shell
cpan> install WWW::Mechanize::Firefox

- it failed... see

cpan MozRepl::RemoteObject

perhaps we can create a live c d

updaqte:

I DID THE FOLLOWING

i grabbed this file

MozRepl 1.1.2
von hyperstruct, rply
Interactive Javascript Console for Mozilla Applications Developers

from this site .

https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/mozrepl/

used the downlaoder and afterwards this was istalled - trhough the firefox

but i have no glue how to proceeed

which tests can i do - which tests with the terminal to check if i installed it right?

i found this site http://chat.stackoverflow.com/transc...2013/2/4/23-24

where someone claims that i can do the following test.

add only this line in a file

use WWW::Mechanize::Firefox;

cf: Mooing Duck Does a file containing only "use WWW::Mechanize::Firefox;" work? If not, it's not properly set up. I'm still researching how to set up perl plugins for you.

well i did this -. but the console gave back the following:

martin@linux-70ce:~/perl> moz.pl
If 'moz.pl' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this:
cnf moz.pl

btw : this page is not very clear in its statements
http://search.cpan.org/~corion/WWW-M...m#INSTALLATION

i do not know how to install

so what -

plzh advice

so what -

plzh advice

i just did it - just see what happened:

http://pastebin.com/5ZkrC2WY

well - i have to study the results... later the evening.

after studying the terminal-output a while i suppose that something went wrong with the installation of mozrepl.... what do you say....

Code:
Can't locate MozRepl/RemoteObject.pm irn @INC (you may need to install the MozRepl::RemoteObject module) (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.18.1/i586-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.18.1 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.18.1/i586-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.18.1 /usr/lib/perl5/5.18.1/i586-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/5.18.1 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl . lib) at lib/Firefox/Application.pm line 4.
conclusion - it would be great if we would have a file that fits . i do not (!!!!!) understand why we need the tricky procedure that is described here....http://search.cpan.org/~corion/WWW-M...stallation.pod

any ideas how to procced

which tests should i perform - what can i do in the terminal now ...

You didn't post the full output, so we can't see what happened. You also don't say whether or not you entered CPAN as root/sudo or not, since you won't have permissions to install new modules system-wide unless you do. Your CPAN connection also tells you explicitly that you're running an old version of CPAN, and suggests that you upgrade and reload...which you didn't do.

Why would anyone need a live CD of a CPAN module for Perl, when you can install the latest versions from the command-line? Any CD will be obsolete very quickly.

You say it got installed...what more, exactly, were you expecting? If you completed the task and got the module/program/whatever installed, you 'proceed' by USING IT.

Nowhere on that page does it say ANYTHING about any file called "moz.pl". The instructions are very, VERY clear: you put ""use WWW::Mechanize::Firefox;"" into a file, and open it with your web browser. Not a lot to be confused about.

I don't see how it could be more clear..it's a step-by-step guide, telling you what to download, what commands to run, and how to troubleshoot things if the tests don't work.

You need to install all the dependencies, and update things. Your CPAN is old, and you're not following the instructions for the plugins. Also, you still have SEVERAL other threads where you never responded to questions that were asked or followed up.

Also, I have used CPAN to install this on another openSUSE 13.1 system with no problems/errors at all. If this is the same openSUSE 13.1 system you posted about many times in the past, it's not surprising you're having troubles. Also, you could also do a manual installation of the Perl modules from CPAN...did you try that?

hello TBone

great to hear from you. Well i am very glad that you answered in such a long and extensive way.

i tried to install Mechanize::Firefox several times - but it failed.

Years ago i was lucky - but i do not know under which conditions i managed this... Probably this had to do with the Make - is this possible?

see the output: http://pastebin.com/5ZkrC2WY

btw: i tried to install manually - with terminal . but with no luck.

TBone - i would be very very glad if you help me to get this issue fixed. I tried to get this to work for such a long long time.

Meanwhile i thougth - it would be great to have a live-cd.

But wait. you have managed to get it working. i would be glad if you can help me.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

If you read the reply, you should have also read the several questions asked of you there, which you STILL haven't answered. There were also several very clear sets of instructions that you posted...did you follow them?

No idea what you mean by "manually - with terminal'...do you mean you did it through CPAN, or one perl module at a time? What do you mean by "no luck"??? As has been told to you before, unless you provide DETAILS, there's nothing we can tell you. Again, you also need to answer questions when they're asked, and follow up. You have numerous threads open where you've never come back and answered or posted follow ups. If you're not going to participate in a conversation, why bother posting?

Again WHY do you think a live CD of a perl module would be a good thing? And seeing as the instructions are very clear, and the manual perl module installation would take less than 30 minutes (even for ALL the dependencies), I find it highly unlikely you've been working on it for a "long long time".

AGAIN, if this is the same 13.1 machine you've posted about numerous times in the past (the one with the bodged together 'upgrade' and other problems, where you were advised AGAINST doing things, but did them anyway), it's not surprising you have problems. Running the CPAN install command was all I had to do on my 13.1 machine to make it work the first time. Again, you are using an old version of CPAN, and the system even TELLS YOU THIS, and suggests you upgrade...you don't even acknowledge you read that, or if you did anything about it.

good day dear Tbone

well at the moment i am short of time - but i am willing to answer you.

yes - this is the 13.1 machine that i have had troubles in the past. ...

hmm how to solve that. You want to say that my sistem still runs on a old version or do you want to say i choose & performe the wrong steps in the therminal

and at the weekend i am trying to figure out the issues. Where do i have dependencies...

"Willing to answer" someone who's trying to help you with YOUR PROBLEM??? Really????

Then don't be surprised you're having problems. You ignored advice from MANY people and did what you wanted to do. Either go back and follow the advice you were given, or try to work through things yourself. If you are going to ignore answers, there's not much point in asking a question.

Since you don't actually say what steps you performed in the terminal, there's no way anyone can tell you if they're right or not. And in your first post, YOU posted a link to this:

You might want to try
install CPAN
reload cpan
to both upgrade CPAN.pm and run the new version without leaving
the current session.
Did you not read or understand that?
Quote:

Again, WHAT issues would a live CD of a perl module solve?

Since you have an incorrectly installed system, there's no way of knowing. Again, you can download the perl modules and install them one at a time, along with whatever dependencies they may have.

AGAIN, since you're ignoring what is being said:
  • You have an incorrect and cobbled-together 13.1 system. Until you fix that, you will continue to have problems with a variety of things.
  • You need to follow the installation instructions and troubleshooting advice. You, yourself posted it, but don't seem to have done it. Unless you're going to follow the instructions, there's not much else anyone can help you with.
  • You need to read and understand the messages the system is giving you...when CPAN VERY PLAINLY tells you what to do, and you ignore it, why do you think things will work just fine??
  • You need to answers questions asked of you if you're going to post. You have SEVERAL threads where you don't even acknowledge you got any help from anyone, and others where you said you'd post back, but didn't.

hello TBone

again many many thanks for your contineued help. I am deeply impressed.
Youre right - sometimes i (have ) been lazy and did not follow advices.

but this time - you ve convinced me; the installation of this system (in question) is sure incorrect.

As mentioned weeks ago - i have another notebook with a better installation of opensuse 13.1
fresh and good installed.

In the next weeek i will try the installation of mozepl and firefox-mecha on the other notebook. At the moment i have not this notebook with me...- so i will have to wait.

ARE there any tests that i can perform to take a previous look before i start with the wohle installation. EG to check the perl installation and - to see what was shipped with the default opensuse 13.1?

Note: i am going to start to do this - on the other notebook in the next week.... any and all preliminary work that can be done - i will do....

Again many many thanks for your contineud help and your patience with me.
You are very very supportive...!!And you helped me alot.

have a great weekend

Yes, and you've said several times in the past you were 'convinced', yet you don't change anything...you still haven't gone back to your other threads and post follow-ups where asked, or posted the solution to a problem when you said you would.

Since a fresh installation of openSUSE 13.1 would only take about 20 minutes, there's no need to wait, especially since you've been 'convinced' to do a fresh installation, so why don't you proceed?

Check your previous other threads where you asked about how to check packages, and try to apply what you were told and maybe read the man pages on the commands. As you have been told before, do some research on your own first, and APPLY what you've been told and LEARN for yourself.
