writing a daemon

I'm looking for information for writing a daemon for linux system that has the following requirements:
  • listening only on specified ip address (config file option)
  • only allowing reqests from a specific ip/netmask (config file option)
  • queries to mysql-database (config file options for connection details)
  • all traffic should be encrypted
  • logging

I definately do not want to run cron scripts to archieve all of this; what I'm basically trying to code is a daemon which waits for a connection to be established for performing different actions like updating specific files (and the appropiate PHP-enabled frontend for it to do so).

i'm open for all kinds of suggestions :-) i will definately require knowledge of c++ coding in linux and because of that i'm looking for in-depth documents for the requirements (tutorials, etc).

Well to write a daemon you will want to check out

man daemon
man 3 syslog

For network programming:
http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue74/tougher.html
http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~beej/guide/net/

If I remember correctly this tutorial wasn't half bad,
but you have to register.

For encryption:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/aeslib/

Since you are bothering with crypto in the first
place, I would reccomend checking MAC
addresses as well since they are harder to
spoof
