Windows: Project Jackhammer, need your input

Hello all,

As some of you may already know, I am developing a new "Service-Pack for Windows98". I am going to make it what should have bin! 32 bit icons, better FTP updater, Free software included like open-office.org , research on the populair usb-drives problems/ driver problems. And much more.
The official Sourceforge page is on:
http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/jackhammer/

THIS SERVICE PACK WILL BE OPEN-SOURCE

So .. I need some help developing, because i am developing it on my own at this moment. Do if you are bored, help me

I need some help with the folowing things:

- I NEED A REAL-LIFE VOICE!!
hmm.. this sounds verry strange i know.. But i need someone to say "Welcome to Windows Jackhammer' as a start-up sound. Heavy voices are the most appreciated. Because im dutch, and my English may have some "dutch" accent to english i would like to have a voice from The USA, Canada , England or any other country accept Holland. Most Dutch have a VERY crappy accent..So sorry holland.. your voices suck!

- LOGO
I need a logo, I already made a logo using Paint shop pro X and paint rolleyes.gif but is isn't satisfying enough. Maybe i could make this like a little photoshop contest, the best one wins. Crash the windows logo, edit it, burn it, each logo could "be the one"

-Expert in booting screens and wallpapers
Is there someone an expert in booting screens and wallpapers? Making bootingscreens for windows98 is verry crappy.. the image needs to be 320x400, it gets streched and pixelated. I anyone has a solution, a good bootup screen or maybe another method to vieuw a bootupscreen at startup using other softare.. please contact me.. i am verry interested.

-FTP website
I need a FTP webspace to upload and manage software updates for my service pack.

-Opinions Wanted
I need your opinion about windows!! , download a opinion form drom this website, fill it in and send it to me!
Jackhammer Opinion Form - Download page

- Suggestions
I need suggestions about wich software i ened to include.. what is your favorite program in windows? Wich patch do i have to include with it?

- General Developers
I know that allot of you may think i'm a bit stupid editing a windows OS on my own. I could use some help. I use Multi Media Builder MP3 from mediachance to make simple programs. It is easy to use and actionscript is also posible. If someone would like to help this developer in hollnad, every help is appriciated. I would feel honored to have someone developing by my side.

-Learning a chatbot technical terms * Low priority
There will be a built-in DOS chatbot wich will explain technical terms, to make the OS more user freindly. I already ahve a chatbot, now it has to be teached things.

So , Atention to all; all help is wanted!

ok first of all.. DO NOT READ THIS...

i do not want to use windows, let alone spend time developing a service pack for *98*..

if you did continue to read this.. maybe answer this question.. WHY?

and who is the target audience.. i will acknowlege that 98 is useful, for things like practicing reversing and related things.. however i dont do anymore than install the default install into VMware and let it be at that..

im sorry this post is so negative and unhelpful.. i told you not to read it..

but i just cannot even begin to comprehend the statement

there has got to be better places around the net to post this type of idea.. one where there might be some support..

This is a perfect valid forum for this type of requests - there are a lot of developers here! Not to mention:

To the OP: I wish you great luck. I'm not much of a developer myself, so that's the best I can do.

never said that it wasnt allowed.. just that it made no sense.. IMO.. but it is more important to find somthing you are interested in as a project, rather than have somthing that others may be interested in (esp me).. i suppose it was a bit of a unneeded post.. possibly the fact i am drinking and typing during commercials of the PSU game ?? either way.. i wish you luck on the project and if there are any programming related issues.. i would be happy to help..

on another note scuzzman..
i see youre from hilliard.. i used to live off of west broad on sullivant.. west siiiddde.. lol

I can't be of much help:

I'm dutch too, so my voice is useless :-)
I'm not bored.
I don't have enough spare time.
I don't really feel like diving into Windows programming again.

But: I do like the idea. OpenSource taking over maintenance of software abandoned by MS. The recent unofficial hotfix for the Windows-X.x WMF-hole, while MS is still pondering over it, is a nice example of this also.

Windows98-SE is still in use in many household. MS dropped support. Installing Linux (or BSD for that matter) is often not an option, as the kids want to be able to play the games they have, among other reasons. And people don't feel like buying Windows-XP for their computer. Rightly so, because often those PC's still running Win98 don't (or hardly) meet the system requirements of WinXP. Let alone the extra cost of buying WinXP.

So I do comprehend:

I wish you luck, and hopefully success. But I think it will be a tedious task, since there are no sources available for the software that needs to be patched. And I don't think just "pimping up" Win98 with some new icons, voices and splash screens will not be enough to get slashdotted. You will need to be able to fix holes that most probably will still pop up.
