I much prefer Gnome over KDE and would like to get more into C++ programming. My question is which is the best IDE to use for C++ under Gnome, I have read a few posts and have had a look at Anjuta, but it seems a lot of people think that for C++ I really should go with KDE and Kdevelop as Gnome is C based. Is this really a problem? or is a Gnome IDE with the right bindings just as good as using KDE and Kdevelop?
I know Kdevelop works in Gnome. What I'm asking is whether using a Gnome IDE isn't as good because Gnome is C based. Or, to put it another way, is there a good reason for me to use Kdevelop over Gnome for C++ development and, if not, then which is the IDE in Gnome that best supports C++.
What about IDE's like Code:blocks or Eclipse e.t.c. do these lean towards better compatibility with KDE or Gnome?
The language in which the window manager was written in has very little impact upon how any development tool will work. So when selecting your IDE it doesn't matter which window manager you use. So in short don't switch your window manager because you want to switch your development language! Of more importance is the underlying libraries that you want to use, for example when developing in C++ there is a stronger argument for selecting the QT libraries over the GTK libraries but it is not an open & shut case.
Personally I use Gnome with KDevelop, and when I'm on windows I use QDevelop and for both I use the QT libraries.
