Using ioport on COM interface

Hi

I programmed a kernel module that uses ioport for COM3 interface. When I came time to load module the request_region() call fails. I assumed that probably beacause the port is owned by tty driver. I wonder if there is a way to disable tty for that port.

By the way, I am using Debian 7 on VirtualBox with kernel 3.2.0-4-686-pae

Thanks in advance

How many actual serial ports your motherboard have? (The typical values are 0 and 1.)

Hi

I don't actually have a serial port in my motherboard. But in VirtualBox, I created a virtual serial port (COM3) as a host pipe.

Well, for a start check log-files (or dmesg), if the kernel knows about it. In my linux-box:
Code:
[ 0.169526] Serial: 8250/16550 driver, 4 ports, IRQ sharing enabled
[ 0.189934] serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
[ 0.210750] 00:0c: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
[ 0.230988] 0000:00:03.3: ttyS1 at I/O 0x2450 (irq = 17) is a 16550A
