use words instead of pictures?

In html (or php) is it possible to type up formula's so they look nice, instead of creating a picture for everyformula? (Mathematic formula's is what I mean).

Thanks

i guess you might want to explore MathML? also it is apparently possible to dynamically create LaTeX output too.

may have browser compatability issues though...

I got it working and was wondering if its possible to make the picture transparent? I used the second site that was provided by acid_kewpie for using latex.

Thanks

well i'd assume the shell out to convert is the point that that would happen, try fiddling with convert directly, presumably with the -transparent option. once you can convert a ps file with a white background to a png with a transparent one, reinserting the additional steps looks trivial.
