hello
can u plz suggest me how to find the path? such as /etc/passwd ,/etc/shadow, /etc/host, /etc/group, /etc/owner...etc.....when using a particular command called ls -al in order to create a database ...for each file..n the corresponding directory

is this a homework question? what kind of database?
and i dont understand your 2nd question.

I think the OP wants to make a database of his directory tree in its expanded form. I am guessing they want a file or image of every directory, subdirectory and file on their computer. I do not know of a program or command that will do this off the top of my head. I am sure there is a simple way of accomplishing this. If this is what is being asked, maybe someone else could help the OP.

I don't understand your question. You may use <paths.h> to get individual paths or dirname(3) to extract the directory component.
