Trying to understand Python 2x or 3x choice for beginner

I have read the official "Should I use Python 2 or Python 3 for my development activity?" from the python site, but because I'm an absolute beginner I can't use the information TO ITS FULLEST anyway to help me decide.

Question:

If my distro is including 2.7 but not 3.x in my package manager, does it mean that even after I was to get 3.x installed , I would have trouble getting apps that I write to run? Some sort of dependency hell or anything like that?

Thanks,

the python 3 executable is named python3 so you can run your python 3 scripts with
python3 scriptname.py

so there is no problem with having both versions installed
