The 'GUI' learning curve...

As is typical with VB classes, they always delve into what the screen controls are all about first. I suppose if you give 1000 monkeys each a computer with VB you may get a working program (vis a vis Microsoft corp... :D )

I suggest 'Visual Basic 6 In Record Time' Steve Brown, Sybex - PLENTY of code examples..... Remember, you can make any program (or site) look fantastic and cool, but if you can't code then you can't add functionality, then what is the point.....!!!!

There is XBasic but that's a bit different.

Sorry People,

Not an ad, or anything like that. I responded to an out of date vb question from the list - just one of my frustrations - I think the thread was, ahem, misplaced..... I find that the MS courses hit the 'glitzy' and leave out the core elements with new students - the message in question was from a guy who made a nice VB screen but was seemingly unaware of a simple VB 'if... then... else.. statement. sad but true.

PHP is my fave, and I'm looking at Flash data client technology to do a cross platform VB style (well, functionally) Intranet application, using Turbine.

I hate MS as much as the rest of you - however, it's an evil I know, and an evil to keep me in beer.
