syslog

in the directory of /var/log , i see some directory like apache2 , apt , gdm , i wonder does all these folders was made under the syslogd ?

i mean do these utilities use syslogd to log their messages or they use their own systems , for example apache use syslog or use its own library?

hi
syslog has its own configfile /etc/syslog.conf. software like samba or apache uses there own logging facilities. take a look at syslog configfile. there you can see what files are created by syslog.
