Suggestions re: good HTML/PHP editor
I have been using CuteFTP & CuteHTML at work to buid our web page on a remote server and was wondering if there might be a better solution. CuteHTML doesn't do PHP highlighting. I have other edtors that work well with PHP but I still use the Cute package because the built in FTP functionality alows me to edit the pages right off of the remote server. Actually it downloads and caches them and then uploads when you save, but this is all virtually transparent. Are there any Open Source or Freeware editors out there that offer this functionality but with support for PHP? This is for a Windows box by the way.

All KWrite-Like editors (KWrite itself, Kate, KDevelop, ...) are very good in highlighting. In KDE you are able to directly access ftp as URL (it sometimes doesnt work directly from editors...)
newer MC (Midnight Commander)-Releases are also capable of PHP Highlighting. Small hint: Install ftpfs-support to your kernel, and you can mount FTP-Servers! It is very usefull, especially in combination with automount Have Fun! Martin |
Chris H,
Thanks, HTML-Kit is exactly what I was looking for. I have been using it for a couple of days now and it really helps me get more done. |
for a general note: a really good Windows editor is Crimson Editor http://www.crimsoneditor.com/. It has syntax highlighting for almost every language, and you can add any language you want to it. I mostly use it for PHP and Perl, but like I said, it has most all languages

for my windows machine i do most code using syn text editor http://syn.sourceforge.net/ its another really good editor program with syntax schemes for most languages. you can add or define your own schemes to.
I really like it espessially for html and php coding. |
I use kate ;) sometimes quanta ;)
