Starting php programming

Good day to all of you. I starting to learn PHP language and I want if there is a free IDE software for fedora core 2 for working with PHP scripts.

Here's another NoOb programmer to be!

have just downloaded some tutorials and doc's and wonder if we can get some starting tips from some experienced programmers on how to get started.
Heard that quanta plus is pretty good as well and think i'm gonna start with that, Or would it be better NOT to use any editor at all if you wan't to learn it quickly?

Maybe some other advise, or is it just best to start with page 1 of the manual and see where it ends?

If I use an IDE, it is usually Quanta because it is one of few that is not based off of Mozilla's composer. For PHP I feel it is not really necessary to use an IDE for anything other than text highlighting which you can get with editors like Kedit. If you know any C or C++, I don't think you need a book on PHP, php.net is a great reference.

can anybody give a hint on how easy/fast it is to learn a programming language as php without any background.
Ofcourse it will depend on the person and what exactly you are trying to accomplish. But if somebody could give a vague idea it would be great,

are we talking about part-time summerschool, or 4 years of university?

I believe anyone with the desire to learn PHP, having no background, could learn it in a matter of weeks, it is very very simple and straightforward. The biggest task is remembering all the useful functions it comes with.

Or will eventually writing everything in a simple text editor give you the best and fastest result wih the least headaches afterwards?

PHP doesn't really have anything to do with the layout of the site by itself, you can use it to arrange HTML and CSS. That's why I don't think PHP IDEs help that much, PHP is what is going on the in the background and is custom to each site. You can download scripts to do things for you, but if you want your site to be original you're going to have to learn how the scripts work.
