Size of gnome panel

Good day!

I'm developing gnome panel applet in python using pygtk and gnomeapplet modules.
The problem is: when I try to get a size of panel (using applet.get_size() method) I receive values divisible by 12 (i.e. 24, 36...), even if real size of panel is 25 (recieved 36), for example.
What I should use to get real size of panel?
