Share programming code, Instant Message

Are there any programs out there where two people can both look at programming code at the same time and change values and work on it? Thanks.

It's called a "Concurrent Versioning System" (CVS) and there's at least a dozen out there.

I don't understand your exact question.

I think you're looking for something like CVS for many people working on the same programming project.

If that's not what you're looking for, then I think you're looking for something like VNC, where you can work on another desktop through a network.

What is your exact requirement?

Is there any way of doing it other than through CVS? The college firewall that I'm behind probably won't allow it...

There's always another way of doing something, but without knowing your specifics I couldn't even begin to tell you what that other way might be. Will the other person be using the same computer as you?

Sorry, no we will be on separate computers. Both connected to the internet but through different providers (if that makes a difference).

Well, if he's outside the university's firewall then you'll have to find a port that's allowed...and your friend will probably have to host it since you're more likely to get out than have him get in through the firewall. You just need to find out which ports are available to you.
