sha-1 openssl on debian Lenny

Hi all,
I've just upgraded some code from etch to lenny which needs to produce some sh1 check sums. However when I compile it gives errors because openssl/sha.h isn't present. OK I thought the openssl lib wasn't present, however when I check apt, it is? I presume openssl has been changed in some way. On searching I've found sha.h in the linux headers, howere the defines I use are missing as well as the function call SHA(...... to get the checksum. Can some one advise what I need to do in Lenny? Thanks :)

Isn't there a suitable one in these?
