Post session_troubles

Good morning!

I don't usually use sessions for authorisation since I figure that .htaccess and the $PHP_AUTH_USER variable work well enough for me, but for the site I am working on now, I thought I'd give it a try.

in every page i do an
<? include("./inc/db.php"); include("./inc/auth.php"); ?>
right at the top of the document.

the auth.php consists of a session_start() followed by the retreival of login-info either from the $_SESSION variable or from the database.

the site i am building works with frames: a simple menu on the left, all other stuff on the right.

the server this all runs on is a standard Debian 3.0 installation.

now when i open this site, i notice that all output is halted after the first few lines of the document. in some cases i get an 'ACTION CANCELED' message from my browser.

I have *absolutely* no idea what is happening here. does anybody have any clues, tips, pointers?

Thanks!
