SDL installation problem

I'm trying to install SDL, via instructions from http://lazyfooproductions.com/SDL_tutorials/

When I try to rpm -i SDL-1.2.9-1.i386.rpm, i get the following error

file /usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0 from install of SDL-1.2.9-1 conflicts with file from package SDL-1.2.7-3

PS: i am root when I do this,

I am running Fedora Core 2

Thanks,
Michael

Yeah the SDL rpm can be buggy.

I recommend posting on the SDL newsgroup:

Ok, i got the rpm to install correctly.

Now when i do:
g++ -o sdl2 lesson02.cpp -lSDL

i get the following message:
/usr/bin/ld: warning: libstdc++.so.6, needed by /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/3.3.3/../../../libSDL.so, may conflict with libstdc++.so.5

funny thing is, the program still compiles and runs. is this going to be a problem??

It seems that your g++ is linking against the libstdc++.so.5 lib, and SDL is linking to the newer, libstdc++.so.6.

Try updating g++ and gcc, which should automatically update libstdc++.so.6 too.
