scheduled tasks on a web server

What is the best way to automate tasks on a remote web server? I plan on using cron jobs, but doesn't the cron cue reset if the computer restarts?

what do you mean by cue (or queue)...? they run at the specified time. there are issues like mised jobs on reboot and things, but extended implmentations like anacron or vixie-cron cover more things like this. you're unliekly to actaully use an original cron standard, instead a newer version with added features mascaradring as the original cron for compatability.

like i said, you're almost guarenteed to find an enhanced version installed, as opposed to other unix's like AIX which are more likely use a more basic POSIX only implementation. Could say any for sure though really.
