RH4.0 ELhugemem Vs ELsmp

Hi, We have a program which takes around 1.8G memory runtime. We used to run this application on RH2.1 boxes (2.4.9-e.35enterprise) which was restricting total memory (heap + stack) to 2G and often used to go outOfMemory. So, we moved our application to RH3.0 with kernel - 2.4.21-47.0.1.ELhugemem. In this kernel, process memory can go up to 3.4G

Now, we are planning to upgrade to RH4.0. kernel is: 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp

How do I know how much maximum memory this Kernel can use? Is there anything called 'ELhugemem' available for RH4.0?

We wrote a java program and confirmed that with RH4.0 ELsmp Kernel, Java applicaton can create around 3200 threads and go upto 3.4G memory. That is same as RH3.0 ELhugemem. However, RH3.0 with ELsmp Kernel can create only 2200 threads and take max memory of 2.6G.

The system limit is always 2GB per process while using a normal kernel. the *hugmem* can support up to 64GB mem, the detail can be grep from kernel config file:
[root@DB ~]# grep 64 /boot/config-2.6.9-42.ELhugemem
CONFIG_HIGHMEM64G=y
...

yes, I'm running RHEL AS4(U4), the related kernel is:
Linux DB 2.6.9-42.ELhugemem #1 SMP Wed Jul 12 23:36:53 EDT 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
