I want a replacement for debug.exe. Reading online it looks like gdb might work. I want to be able to run commands such as "-a <address>", "-n file.bin" and "-w 0 0 0 1". Is this possible? If not I can just continue using virtualization and DOS.
For debugging Linux programs, you want gdb, possibly with one of it's GUI front-ends, such as ddd. gdb will not serve you for debugging under DOS, just like debug.exe will not be useful for debugging Linux programs.
I guess a partial solution would be to use 'dd' and offset the location of writing. I think I will stick with DOS for writing assembled coded to a disk since debug.exe is best suited to that job.
