Remote Access Tool code

Is it possible to look into Bash and find whether or not a Remote Access Tool or any other viruses have been installed? Im on Ubuntu. A friend and I are testing it out. Currently my PC is officially infected. How can I look it up to see where it is either GUI or Bash?

Depending on the RAT...rkhunter.
Or possibly clamscan.
Are you familiar with either of these?
