Reading embedded images with python

I'm creating a python frontend for MPD and I'm looking to implement the reading and displaying of embedded album art. I've gotten the source to the point where it will display an arbitrary external file, but I can't seem to find anything about reading the image from inside another file. I've googled, and found these two:
http://linuxgazette.net/issue79/chung.html
and
http://www.pythonware.com/library/pi...troduction.htm

I would look at the source for Sonata or GMPC but as far as I can tell, they haven't done it either.

tl;dr: Any Ideas on how I can read embedded album art from inside mp3s/Oggs/m4as using python 2.5?
