Do you have the gcc compiler installed on the machine ?
Is it a sparc or i386 H/W ?

not sure about the gcc.. I just install a full install.
It is a i386.

Gcc is not part of a full install, unless you installed the Solaris Companion CD.
You can download it at http://www.sunfreeware.com/programlistintel8.html#gcc34 (take gcc_small).
