Programs with QT/GTK+ or KDE/Gnome?

This is an unusual question. Not about QT vs. GTK or KDE vs. Gnome.

But whether I should create an app using either the QT/GTK libraries or the KDE/Gnome libraries.

Personally I think when creating an app, it's better to use the QT/GTK libraries directly without using the KDE/Gnome libraries.

Which approach is better and why? Use the main KDE/Gnome libraries or the underlying QT/GTK libraries?

qt/gtk

they are only toolkits, and most of those other libs are useless, and only there to force you into the near full desktop environment. the "gnome" libs/apps are better at this, gnome is a loose nit set of programs/libs that arnt even "gnome", but use GTK. as such, very few "gnome" apps are gnome specific. A list of what not to use

- never use a VFS from gnome/kde , they just prove to confuse people, and off zero benefits.

- never use kde/gnome "base" libs. These usually just tangle the program for the DE only, if it can be avoided, do it.

thats basically it, just steer clear of those pesky DE death libs, and you'll be fine.

Thanks SciYro, that helps!

I suspected that all along, but just wanted some confirmation from more experienced programmers.

Even with the base libs (QT/GTK) things can get a bit messy, so I'll avoid those KDE/Gnome dependencies while compiling my programs.
