programming help in C

im am trying to develop an operating system for a challenge. (on a floppy!) so far i got a bootloader wich loads kernel.bin.
the problem is that my kernel is in assembly and prints "Welcome to my OS" on the screen. BUT...i want the kernel in C. ive read that i need a ASSEMBLY file (kernel_asm.asm to load the .C kernel (kerenl_c.c) and link them together using LD to output the file kernel.bin

im on windows doing this which ive put DJGPP on so i have the windows version of gcc and ld

any help would be greatfull!
