Producing Open Source Software

Just a heads up. I just found out about a free online book called Producing Open Source Software. It's great.

EDIT: I just used a trunk checkout and the directions here to make myself an epub version:

http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/xm.../section5.html

EDIT AGAIN: don't download the epub version from here:

http://www.manybooks.net/titles/foge..._software.html

If you get it there, then the table of contents doesn't work. Make the epub version yourself, and you have a table of contents.

EDIT AGAIN: I just sent the book's author and maintainer a patch to automate the creation of epub versions. Hopefully, he'll start offering epubs for download soon .

I sent the author a patch against the Makefiles to produce epub versions. I count that has helping the author.

While I'm certainly happy if you buy the book, I'm just as happy if you read it online. And I agree with Dugan that sending a Makefile patch to generate epub format is a contribution! :-) I'm back from some travel now and hope to get a chance to incorporate the patch on Sunday.

Best,
-Karl
