problem with interruptible_sleep_on and wake_up_interrruptible

I am writing a char driver which blocks on reading. I acheive this using interruptible_sleep_on .
I notify the sleeping process from another driver using wake_up_interruptible.Calling wake_up_interruptible does not trasfer control to sleeping process immediately or atleast
with in the timeframe i would like.
What i need is to have the event notification immediately after calling wake_up_interrruptible.
Please help.
