problem making slackware package

I'm trying to make a slackware package from the sources of EPKOWA's epson stylus print driver. Here's what I've done:

Code:
root@busbarn:/work/pips-sc61_62s-cups-2.6.2# ./configure --prefix=/usr --bindir=/usr/bin --sysconfdir=/etc localstatedir=/var
(config stuff prints out)
./configure: line 4918: cmp: command not found
configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating Makefile
config.status: creating src/Makefile
config.status: creating ekpd/Makefile
config.status: creating ekpd/rc/Makefile
config.status: creating ekpstm/Makefile
config.status: creating lib/Makefile
config.status: creating setup/Makefile
config.status: creating data/Makefile
config.status: creating redhat/Makefile
config.status: creating doc/Makefile
config.status: creating config.h
config.status: executing default-1 commands

root@duckbutter:/work/pips-sc61_62s-cups-2.6.2# make <---no errors

root@duckbutter:/work/pips-sc61_62s-cups-2.6.2# installwatch make install DESTDIR=/work/builds
After compiling for awhile, I get these errors:
Code:
mkdir /work/builds/usr/bin
  /bin/install -c ekpstm /work/builds/usr/bin/ekpstm
/bin/sh: line 1: /bin/install: No such file or directory
make[5]: *** [install-binPROGRAMS] Error 127
make[5]: Leaving directory `/work/pips-sc61_62s-cups-2.6.2/ekpstm/ekpstm-1.0.2/src'
make[4]: *** [install-am] Error 2
make[4]: Leaving directory `/work/pips-sc61_62s-cups-2.6.2/ekpstm/ekpstm-1.0.2/src'
make[3]: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/work/pips-sc61_62s-cups-2.6.2/ekpstm/ekpstm-1.0.2'
make[2]: *** [install-exec-local] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/work/pips-sc61_62s-cups-2.6.2/ekpstm'
make[1]: *** [install-am] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/work/pips-sc61_62s-cups-2.6.2/ekpstm'
make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
It looks to me like it's trying to use the command /bin/install instead of /usr/bin/install. I've looked in the make file and everything seems okay.

DOes anybody have any suggestions as to fix these errors?
Thanks in advance.

Does the configure script ever report something like "Looking for install... /usr/bin/install"?

FIXED: It turns out that I needed openssl install in order for it to work. Who knew?
