Preferred linux graphics text mode library?

I see a lot of C programs requiring graphics.h which I cannot find,.. however my question is this:

What do you suggest as a 'text mode' graphics library for clearing the screen and displaying text in various places?

I'm thinking something in the vein of Nethack or Vim.

I haven't used either, but ncurses and s-lang would be the obvious recommendations.

As usual - thank you.

Sure enough, looked up ncurses and used this example: http://www.paulgriffiths.net/program/c/curhello.php

Thats exactly what I meant.

Additionally, if anyone finds this, and is interested in learning C -- I am watching this Stanford lecture series, to learn about C and lower level languages: http://see.stanford.edu/see/coursein...a-ca9d470755ee

No problem. If you like that, then let me mention this as well:

No video, but the notes and exercises are helpful.
