PHP read file in real time

Hey all,
Is there any way in PHP to read a file, and keep that file open, so that when text is added to a file, it is immediately written to the web page?

Or is this something that needs to be done with Javascript?

I just want to write to a file on my server, and see that output to the web page, without having to refresh the web page.

Thanks,
Josh

if you dont want to refresh the page you can only use javascript. How do you intend to send letters to the server without connecting to it, i. e. with a form? You may use asynchronous javascript that sends some input to the server without refreshing the whole page. The presentation of the new text can be displayed with DHTML...
Look around for AJAX, DHTM...
