PHP in Linux equivalent of Program Files and System32
Getting used to FC2 now.
I downloaded php.tar.gz and now I want to know where should I extract the files to ?
For Windows 2003, I had it in C:\Program File\PHP and the php4ts.dll in C:\Windows\System32. Whats the equivalent for that in FC2 or Linux for that matter.
Ok. We can extract to anywhere - even in Windows its no prob - but I would like to have it in the common place like C:\Program Files - so where do these go in Linux ?
Thanks
When building a package from source, I usually just run "./configure" and "make install" and let the package install itself where ever it wants (typically, into /usr/local).
When I install a "package", I tend to install it into /opt.
And finally, on my SuSE Linux, PHP happens to be installed here:

What do you mean building from source - compiling the source ? Isnt it just possible to extract and specify that location in httpd.conf as I did in Windows ?
Alright. In that case where has is been installed to ? I need to know because I got to do this in Apache's httpd.conf file :
LoadModule php5_module "c:/php/php5apache2.dll"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
Also I'll need to overwrite the old php folder with php's content.
In Windows I just had to add
LoadModule php5_module "c:/php/php5apache2.dll"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
in the httpd.conf file. I thought similarly in Linux - /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf.
Because there is no keyword "php" in this file !
