Perl standard interface library?

Is there a library for perl that comes with most common distributions that will allow me to make very simple text interfaces like a simple menu?

I realise that curses might be what I need but it isn't available on RH9. I'd like something reasonably common and not have to resort to downloading a module from cpan.
