Password protected web page.

I need to make a membership file password protected so that only members with a registered email address can download it.

Looking at the usenet newsgroups listed dealing with 'html', nothing seems intuitive as to actitivity, security, etc. I've done a Google search and got it down to 34 hit, but nothing is what I need.

Could someone recommend a place for me to go to this find this information?

I recommend the Authentication, Authorization and Access Control tutorial at http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/howto/auth.html - they helped me get a similar setup running. If you have any specific questions or would like to see my httpd.conf file please let me know.

Thanks to you both for the replies. First question, what word combination did you use in your search. I used 'password protected' and many different combinations on Google and did not find any of this.

Let me digest what you have offered over the weekend.

A similar one actually - 'apache password protect'. I like Google, but getting the right search criteria is sometimes as hard as configuring the software I want help with...
