Anyone here who has links to some great sites about Parallel Port Interfacing and maybe even about Robots that are controlled using the parallel port. I"ll be using my Slackware 10.0 Box. Thanks!
Yea, I dont think he finished it, but I had suggested he hook it up to a wireless network so that he could control his fireworks with a pda or something.

you can do the ever classical hooking up an LCD HD44780 module, just have to make a page with the LCD functions, once i have free time i'll port my app to linux i made to play around with it. Just google for "HD44780" and enjoy the five million sites, there's a really good codeproject one too. It's easy, usefull and pretty straightforward. If you want to see an already made program there was one on sourceforge, though there probably are more, i think it even is apt-getable.
EDIT: btw you'll need a usb cable as power supply (works best). The HD44780 chip is designed for either 8 bit data input or 4 bit data input, so you can also fool around with your serial port (though it is tougher).
