OpenGL/GLUT save image example

does anyone have an example of an image save function with some sort of compression, bmp, jpg? or know of a free library i could use (preferably not need to be installed)?

i need to make a 'movie' of my program, and size is getting to be a factor with anything over 10 seconds. thanks
