Office in Java


Hi, does anyone know how to open .doc .ppt .xls .docx.... files using java ? i found just Apache POI but it can open just .xls files. Thanks

Yes, and there are Google links to all of them:

Well,

that links are for a COM bridge, meaning it will not run on anything
but a Windows machine that has Office installed.

Yes, POI isn't really useful for anything but XLS...
(and is doesn't look like this is about to change soon).

Using the OpenOffice API allows you to access MSOffice Documents on
any OS, but, you again need OpenOffice installed on the machine.
(And the import is not 100% for complex documents/presentations)

Myself, facing the same problem, switched to using ODF (ODF) rather
than Winword format, using the ODFDOM library.

But if you need a free, opensource, cross-platform solution, you're
probably out of luck.

Yea I see that this has no solution... And I'm not going to pay for something I will use just once :/. Thanks anyway

But Open Office is Free, Cross Platform and written in Java (I believe) so it is only a download away. And I thought all major Linux Distributions included it anyway. The source code should be available as well so you can find out how Sun solved the problem you want to solve.
