not able to add system call..getting error elf_i386 not found..

not able to add system call..getting error elf_i386 not found..
hello;
i am trying to add new system call,linux 2.6.16/arch/i386/kernel ...
after make menuconfig in dialog box i am saving configuration file...after this when i am using make command i am getting error as elf_i386 not found...
can some one help me regarding this;
