New to programming~

Hello I am a newbie to programming, but I am so pumped to learn c++ and c....

Currently I run serveral game servers, and I'm getting a little bored so I want to start my own game...

Can someone give me some help, maybe to where i can get a free C++ or c program... Plus a few pointers on getting started will be appreciated also.

Also I want to be able to make a few small programs, something that is open source that already has been started, so I can see how coding is done...

A good free C and C++ compiler is available with your Linux distribution. It's called "gcc" and "g++" resp.

A good book about C-programming is "The C Programming Language (2nd Edition)", written by the inventor of C. It's a well known, good book, but though it's complete and it starts at the beginning, it's pace may be a little fast for beginners.
