Need to modify chmod & mv to make use of a time-based access control policy

Greetings all,

A former student in my class designed a kernel module for time-based access control. Now my class has to go through the original Linux (FC4 or 5) binaries and modify them to make use of the changes. I have been assigned chmod and mv.

I am comfortable using Linux and the basics, but have never tried to modify the source. Where do I find the source for the distro, and once I have that, is there an easy way to find all the lines that pertain to my binaries? It may be apparent once I open up the source, but as I said I've never done that.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Andy

Wow...that's pretty intense.

Well, if you already have the kernel sources, they will be located in /usr/src/linux. Keep in mind, the kernel isn't written in just C and/or C++, there's a bit of assembly in there, too.

If I understand well, you won't have to touch anything in the kernel. Just download the source rpm for mv and chmod; the binary is: rpm -qf $(which mv) $(which chmod)

Good luck. That's not an easy work.

Yves.

Apologies for the OT post, but would it be possible to share any details about this?
