Need help with writing a system call of my own

Dear all,

I am a newbie at kernel level programming. I am trying to write a system call which returns pid, gid, ppid, state, count of child, pids of child processes and their states, count of siblings and pids of siblings and their states etc. In addition I also need to show if any child is ZOMBIE then its exit_code or exit_signal.

As far as I know it is not the function of a system call to return that information but of a userland application to make sense of what /proc has to offer. For instance have a look at the source of say 'ps'. If you want a more "simple" source to look at see for instance the Busybox implementation of 'ps' or 'procstat'.
