Do you mean Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL)? I ask because the old Redhat series are very old - they started with numbers at 1 again a little while ago, and added the "enterprise" part of the name.

It makes a big difference because "Redhat Enterprise linux 5" is more or less current (5.2 is the current release), but "Redhat 5" is almost 11 years old!

I'm not a Redhat user, but I had a search around for packages in the repos. I was very surprised to find out that there are no ID3 tag extraction tools in the default repositories, and it looks like even in the "Epel" extra repositories there are none.

This makes installing an ID3 extraction tool a bit of a pain in the backside, and without being a Redhat user, I find myself in bad position to help you. If I were to do it myself, I would probably download the source code for the program and build it, but I don't know if you have the required development packages installed, and there may be a much easier way which a Redhat user could tell you in a jiffy.

I would recommend posting in the Redhat forum, and asking how you should go about installing the "id3" program. Incidentally, you can also use a program called "id3tool", with a minor modification to the script I posted above.

Once you've got one of those tools installed with the help of the people from the Redhat forum, we shall continue here.
