Mysterious d-bus issues with KApplication class in KDE4

I've been trying to write a simple app using KDE4 libs but each time I go
to run it with the declaration of a KApplication derived class I get an
error message saying that the program has crashed.

After running it inside of gdb I found that it was attempting to access
the D-Bus system but there is already a thread with the name "bridge"
so it was rejected.
Changing the app name hasn't helped either. Is there something I'm missing
here people?
