Running Red Hat enterprise 5.6 and xampp for Linux 1.7.7
Installed xampp under /opt and ran /opt/lampp/lampp start.
started mysql at the command line with 'mysql -u root -p' and did a "show databases;" query and this is returned.

I looked in the /opt/lampp/var/mysql directory and I see all the databases except 'information_schema'. I used 'find' from the root directory and did a search for 'information_schema' and nothing is returned.
Anyone know what the heck is 'information_schema' and where it could be coming from?
