MP3 Programming tutorial

Yo dudes!
Anyone know of any good MP3 programming tutorials? My google skills fail me.
I'm looking to build an MP3 player for a bit of fun and I was wondering if anyone know of any decoder/player tutorials preferably in C++ or C# at a push.

Also I may go into producing some kind of visualizations too. How would I go about accessing the levels of frequency band (I think that's how it would work...)?

Thanks allot!

EDIT:Is there any part of the DirectX package that could dealwith MP3s?

MP3's a proprietary format, so consider that. Why don't you look at the source of some audio player? I wouldn't suggest amarok because that's way too big to look through. XMMS or RhythmBox?

Download the source to mpg123. I can't think of another mp3 player with less bells and whistles to distract you from the code of the main mp3 engine.
